The Flying Elk - Stockholm Food Stories

Review analysis
food   menu

Björn Frantzen is one of Stockholm’s most renowned chefs, probably more known for his two starred restaurant Frantzén than his gastro pub in Gamla Stan The Flying Elk.

But the pub certainly strengthens his position on the food scene in Stockholm, providing us all with a great gastro pub with high quality food in a really nice venu in the historic setting of Gamla Stan (the Old Town).

The Flying Elk is located just a block away from restaurant Frantzén in Gamla Stan (the Old Town), so navigate your way through this cosy part of town, with its narrow alleys, historic buildings and tonnes of tourists (or just take the subway, it’s just across the entrance) and avoid the classic tourist traps by visiting one of the best gastropubs in town.

The flavors of the menu are powerful and a bit rustic in all its refinement, the thoughts really go to proper pub food with just that exception the fatty ingredients have been exchanged for things a bit more refined, and above all the execution is just so much better than you would ever think.

The Flying Elk is really a casual meeting place, great for a afterwork with some good food, great for a long dinner (there is also a tasting menu) or just a quick and casual dinner.

Restaurant The Flying Elk

Gastro pub The Flying Elk opened in 2013, at Mälartorget in Gamla stan.

Here you will find great pub food accompanied with a great beer selection.

The idea of offering ”proper pub grub” came from Björn’s years in the London pub scene.

The Flying Elk is his own interpretation of pub grub, where the beer is just as important and the food.

When two star restaurant Frantzén was going to open a new restaurant we were asked to come onboard to help create the brand identity.

Our aim was to be envolved in every touchpoint of the restaurant.

We have created the name, brand story and the visual identity with all its applications.

We have also worked closely with the architects sandellsandberg, to ensure the brand story was fully implemented throughout the restaurant.

Speceriet is my favorite lunch spot in Stockholm.

The sister restaurant of one Michelin star Gastrologik is located in the quiet street Artillerigatan.

Also, Speceriet hasn’t got the long curtains in the window like the secretive Gastrologik, and small tables lined up outside will guide you to the correct entrance during opening hours.

Speceriet is unpretentious, easily accessible and offers the same high-quality ingredients as Gastrologik.

Sister restaurant with a higher turnover of tables can be crucial to the survival of a high-end fine dining restaurant.

The Flying Elk is the casual sister establishment of the three-Michelin-starred restaurant Frantzén, located in Gamla Stan (the old town).

A gastropub, fusing Swedish ingredients with British pub culture, that has everything you could possibly crave on the menu.

Don’t miss the perfectly cooked fish and chips, schnitzel “Björn Frantzén,” or, the cheeseburger in a toasted brioche.

Visit the restaurant’s website here.
